New Work

CGHub Drawing Jam #40 :: Royal African Hermit (finished piece)

Finished product

So here is the final piece. Not to much was left to be done, just some shading and touch ups. I have 3 more pin-up piece in the works. Some old art that I’m revising. I never really was satisfied with the pieces but always like the concepts, so I’m bringing them back to life. In the past week I’ve been focusing on anatomy, sometimes I look at my old work and think what was I thinking when I drew that. Anatomy is so important to study and master. Keep the pencils moving…

Work in Progress of the day…

This was though of a few weeks ago but slowly I’ve been working on it. Today I happen to have a chance to polish it a bit. A fellow artist mentioned a way of inking my work that made things fairly easier, since I’m the worst inker alive. I’m still not satisfied with this piece that’s why it’s a work in progress(wip). Hopefully it will be up finalized before the end of the weekend, I doubt it. peace-

More work in progress..

So for the month of Sept. I have quite a few day soff from the day job, so I plan to do much work. Actually as much work as I can complete. Here’s a design concept for an BJJ apparel company, I plan to doing a series of these. Today I learned something new that will help bring out my illustrations more. It wasn’t a new way to paint but a new way to add or take away details that will take my art to the next level. So I have not just new art to create but a new technique to work on as well.

Jiu jitsu for the ladies too!…work in progress

Work in progress…commission for an BJJ apparel company. More work on the way.

More Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Artwork for the book

I’ve haven’t been working on this project as hard as I have been training in BJJ. My goal is to complete atleast half of the book before I move this spring/summer. The book is huge so completing half is still an accomplishment. These are some drawing of arm locks/arm bars. For the next few chapters I will be drawing out the different moves and positions that one will half to learn in order to take down and disable and opponent. Osu!

Three is the magic number (gouache vs. digital edition)

Another gouache painting adjusted in photoshop. I enjoy gouache but I still need to work on it a bit before I’m truly comfortable with the medium. The Art Demon never sleeps.

Back in the lab…

This is one of the latest digital sketches. I’m working on drawing straight in photoshop rather than sketching on paper first. It’s tough at first but with a little practice it’ll become easier.

Protect your neck: The Artwork of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

So over the past few months I’ve been posting some video and drawings about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Here’s some of the work so far. There is more to come I just have to finish inking the art. This project is very important to me not only because of my passion for the art but I want share something that is very close to me and personal. I enjoy martial arts and appreciate the fact that I am able to study among some of the world’s elite and learn from the very best. This is my way of saying thank you or obrigado.

Art Demon series continuation…

Many of you have already viewed the Art Demon series I’ve been working on. So far it has been flowing and growing into a larger project than what I started out with. I decided to take a couple of the paintings and bring them into photoshop to take them a step further. The concept was’t to change or create something new, just to add more details and adjust the colors to create more of an impact with the artwork. I just reached the middle of the book so maybe another month or so and I will be complete. Or whenever the book falls apart I’ll stop, which ever comes first.

Monthly Bondfire

Last night I had the pleasure of painting alongside some of New York Artist and Lyricist. The Monthly Bondfire is an event I’m proud to be apart of, something for the people by the people.
Here’s what was created in a span of 2 1/2 hours. The second piece( Deejay) is unfinished but I’m going to leave it as it is for now.

There is always an escape.

For several years now I have been studying martial arts heavily however, not until earlier this year have I felt it useful or practical. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than the UFC or fighting in general. For me it’s about self control and discipline. To overcome an opponent i must first conquer myself. With all that said I decided to take my love for the art to another level so I began working on a book of art dedicated to the history and development of the techniques. Here are a few images so far.

The Art Demon rides again! (gouache painting)

What can I say differently about this one….not much. Enjoy!! Gouache painting in 5×8 moleskine book, Illustrated with a #5 and #8 pen, double spread.

Art demon back piece (gouache painting)

This piece was the most detailed so far in the series. I wanted to do more with the shading in the beginning. Once I got started things went into another direction. I choose to keep the background fairly simple while adding more detail to the characters. I will be posting 3 more later this week. The goal is to complete this book by the end of the month.

The next sketch for the series to be painted.

The art demon rides again (gouache painting)

This is another installment of the Art Demon series painted entirely in gouache. This piece is a two page spread about 10″x8″ in a moleskine book. This piece was inspired by the t.v. series Sons of Anarchy. I’ve been into motorcycles for a little while and became a fan of the show.

Night Nurse (gouache painting)

Here’s the finshed product from my last posting. The size is 5″x8″. I like to think I’m getting used to painting on such a small scale but I know I have barley cracked the surface of working with this medium. The Art Demon will be an ongoing theme throughout the book. I basically want to show the evolution on my logo. You will have to just check back to see what I mean. Stay tuned.

Art Demon(sketchbook illustration painted in gouache)

Yesterday I posted the sketch for this painting. Here’s the final product. So far working with gouache is fairly easy. I just have to get use to using small brushes for detail.

Black book sessions

So lately I’ve gathered up a farly good amount of different types of sketch books. Still not sure of how or what I will put into each one. As of today I’ve started working in my moleskine I purchased form Hydro74. For this book I plan to work with Gouache. With each book I usually work with a steady theme or medium. This book is particular special because of the cover is laser etched. The size is good and the paper is pretty thick so the paint will hold. My goal is to finish by December.

Latest Work…Dread (revised)

As an artist one of the hardest things I face is keeping my skills sharp. One day I might think I am getting use to a style or technique and then a few weeks later or a month later I discover a whole new way to create the same image but only what i feel is better. So this is the main reason I’m always recreating artwork that was already on the site. It’s not that I don’t have new work but I only want to show certain images and now all or everything in my collection. Take a look.

Work in progress

It’s no secret that I am a fan of food and particularly a fan of nachos. So when I was asked to created some art for Nachos NY I jumped at it. With this piece I was looking to take my digital painting skills to another level so I started with a simple drawing but then decided just to delete the outline and paint freehand. Like I said this is a work in progress so stay tuned for the final product. peace-
